Questions about official New Jersey criminal records must go to the government body that maintains the requested file. New Jersey Criminal History is a private reference site and cannot receive record requests or act for an agency. State criminal history belongs with the New Jersey State Police, court files with the New Jersey Judiciary, and state custody information with the New Jersey Department of Corrections. Arrest, booking, and local case materials may instead remain with an agency in one of New Jersey's 21 counties. The routes below identify the proper starting point for each kind of request.

This Is Not a Government Office. New Jersey Criminal History cannot retrieve an official record, conduct an official check, correct or remove a record, or accept an expungement filing. Contact the responsible government agency directly.

Need an Official Record?

Use the New Jersey source that matches the record:

  • New Jersey criminal history and personal record review: begin with the New Jersey State Police State Bureau of Identification
  • Superior Court or municipal case files: use the relevant New Jersey Judiciary system or the court that maintains the case; the criminal court case guide distinguishes those routes
  • State prison custody: use the New Jersey Department of Corrections Offender Search Engine
  • Sex offender registry information: use the New Jersey Sex Offender Internet Registry managed by the New Jersey State Police
  • Police or incident reports: contact the New Jersey law-enforcement agency that created the report
  • Expungement: use the New Jersey Judiciary's eCourts Expungement process and court instructions
  • County arrest, booking, custody, or court material: choose the responsible local source through the directory of all 21 New Jersey counties

For supervision questions, use New Jersey Judiciary Probation Services or the State Parole Board. A request for disclosable parole records follows the Board's OPRA form.

No single counter holds every New Jersey criminal record. Send each request through the official NJSP, Judiciary, NJDOC, registry, police, or county channel identified for that record type.
